They live with their daughter R, 12 years old, and 3 sons; W, 14 years old, H, 7 years old, and P, 5 years old. The 2 eldest children are students. The family lives in a two-bedroom house, which they own and got built with help of their friends and relatives. They've been living here for the past 3 years. The house has no electricity and the toilet is outside on their own plot but not shared with other households. The family buys 10% of their food supplies and produces the remaining 90% themselves. They use wood for cooking in the kitchen. The children spend 2 hours a week collecting water that is safe to drink, which takes 5 minutes to collect and come back. The whole family spends 11 hours a week collecting wood and 23 hours attending to home agricultural activities. Sometimes, M and B get government work, mostly doing construction. The family cannot save any money since they have no income. They’ve never been on a vacation and the furthest place they have ever been was Mt. Hagen, Papua New Guinea. The next big thing they plan to buy is a generator. They hope that one day they will be able to fulfill their dream of buying many necessities such as oil, clothes, plates, pots, utensils, etc.
